He’s Baaaaaack – Chris Cooley Returns to Redskins
- Updated: October 22, 2012
If there is one sure way to heal the hurt of a crushing loss to a division rival it is by introducing the return of a fan favorite.
The Washington Redskins added a little “Chaos” to their explosive offense today by re-signing TE Chris Cooley. While the deal makes a ton of sense for both sides the Cooley faithful would do well to not have unrealistic expectations for the 2nd coming.
Through the summer it was clear that the time was coming for Cooley and the Redskins to part. At the time Fred Davis was completely secure in being the starter at TE while Logan Paulson had shown flashes of being a solid depth player and Niles Paul was looking like he could be a great fit once he matured into his new position.
Add in the fact that Cooley carried a HEAVY Salary Cap number and well, even I could do the math.
In the weeks since Chris gave his heartfelt goodbye to Redskins Nation things have changed.
Fred Davis is lost for the season with a torn ACL and Niles Paul has struggled with his adjustment to TE. Sure he has the speed and athleticism to be a potential threat but his technique at the line has been less than great.
During his farewell presser Cooley was adamant that he still had the ability to be an impact player:
“I have every belief that I can play football. I have every belief that I can be not only a productive player, but a starter in this league. I’m very confident in my abilities to continue to play the game.” Cooley continued “It would be a tough decision for me to put on another jersey.”
